About Us

Who We Are

The PRC is a membership organization and community clearinghouse of information on peace and social justice issues and activities. Through our active programs and by promoting networking among peace-related organizations, offering nonviolent alternatives to conflict resolution and carrying on a program of peace education, we provide an ongoing presence throughout San Diego County. Founded in 1980 by six local organizations committed to peace, the Peace Resource Center now has over 40 member organizations (listed here) and hundreds of individual and family members. We are guided by the principles of nonviolence, tolerance, compassion and respect for diversity. Membership is open to all individuals and organizations concerned about peace with justice and the need to live by these principles.

What We Believe

Our Mission

The Peace Resource Center was established to provide a clearinghouse of peace and social justice resources, issues and activities; to promote networking among peace-related organizations; to offer nonviolent alternatives in conflict resolution; and to carry on an expanding program of peace education in San Diego County.

The Center provides an ongoing presence throughout San Diego County to counter and alter violent approaches to problem solving—interpersonally, nationally and internationally and works to point out the links among issues of peace, social justice and a safe, sustainable environment.

Our Values

Think Globally, Act Locally! Peace is more than the absence of war between nations. Violence, injustice and environmental degradation are plagues that undermine the quality of life of the world's inhabitants every day and threaten humankind and the planet with ultimate extinction. Working for peace is a way of life that recognizes the value and sanctity of all life and actively seeks ways for us to live in balance and harmony with each other and the planet. Working together to create real peace for all is the most important goal for humanity.

What We Do

The Peace Resource Center works for peace by

  • promoting ideas for constructive nonviolent actions and solutions

  • promoting dialogue and understanding of the causes of violence and militarism
  • facilitating communication among peace-related groups
  • functioning as a central clearinghouse for information issues and activities
